Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Walla Walla University

Master’s Degree in Arts and Teaching from Walla Walla University

It is a pleasure to be part of such a great school family.  The Lord has blessed me in so many ways by bringing me to Memphis Jr. Academy.  I have been teaching in the Adventist school system for 22 years and have been a principal for 11 years.  Teaching brings a joy that other professions cannot know. For downtime, my husband and I enjoy spending time camping and traveling the US and Canada together in our RV.

9th and 10th Homeroom, 6-10 English, History, and Social Studies

Bachelor’s Degree in Arts English from Andrews University

Hello! I am in my third year of teaching at MJA, and it has been a blessing and privilege to be a part of such an amazing school family! I was born and raised in Long Island, New York, and lived there until I was 9 years old. Afterwards, my family moved to Kissimmee, Florida, where I lived up until I attended Andrews University as a student in the fall of 2010. Although I didn’t realize it at first, being a part of my home church is where I first had the impression that I would enjoy becoming an educator. I do love reading and critiquing, but outside of teaching hobbies, I also enjoy watching movies, travelling, and baking.

6th-8th Grade Homeroom, 6-10 grade Math and Science

Bachelor’s Degree in Science from Southwestern University

Teaching math and science has been my passion for decades.  An even greater passion is sharing Jesus through math and science.  It warms my heart when students make spiritual connections while studying fractions or integers or when they come face to face with their Creator in Science. Working at MJA helps prepare me and my students for our higher education in the laboratories of heaven.

Christianna Goyanes  email

3rd-5th Grade Homeroom Teacher

Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Southern Adventist University

I grew up in the hills of the east Tennessee Valley. I spent most of my time in Ooltewah, TN, but also spent many happy summers visiting family in New Market, Virginia. I has been married for 4 years and have one child.  I have been teaching for 9 years and have experience working with grades 1-6 and 5 years’ experience working in a multi-grade setting.

My passion is creating a fun, safe learning environment where students can flourish both socially and academically. I consider behavior management, collaboration, and parent communication my strengths. Bible, Reading and Writing are my favorite subjects to teach. I enjoy riding horses and bicycles, reading, and spending time with friends and family playing games. I look forward with excitement to partnering with you, and helping your child experience growth and success academically, socially, and spiritually.

1st and 2nd Grade Homeroom Teacher

Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts Education from Southern Adventist University

Hi! I am the 1st and 2nd grade teacher at Memphis Junior Academy. I first fell in love with Tennessee when I moved here in 2010 to go to Southern Adventist University. Getting to experience all 4 seasons and explore new activities such as hiking in actual mountains, convinced me that I could trade the sunshine of Florida for the southern charm of Tennessee. This is now my 6th year teaching at Memphis Junior Academy and I consider Tennessee my home. I love exploring the vegan cuisine around Memphis, hiking at Shelby Farms, and participating in various sporting activities. I am an avid sports fan who enjoys supporting all the local teams even though the Florida Gators will always be number 1 in my heart. I love learning new things and can now add a red belt in karate, balloon twisting, and ukulele playing to my list of skills learned since coming to Memphis. The most important things I have learned have come from my students. They have taught me so much more than I could ever teach them. Each child is more than a student to me; I consider them family and I am blessed to be their teacher.

Kaylee began her career teaching 2nd grade and then spent many years working as a Disabilities Consultant for the Head Start program with children 2 -5 years old. After having two children, Kaylee decided to retire from her career and focus on just being a mama. When child number 3 headed off to Kindergarten, Kaylee decided to go right along with her. Kaylee will be coming up on her 3rd full year of teaching this December, but has had years of experience as a favorite substitute here at Memphis Junior Academy. She is a teacher and a parent at our school, with a 1st grader, a 4th grader and an 8th grader. Mrs. Baughman is married to her college sweetheart, Brandon.
